Linux Ubuntu sur mon portable ASUS G2PC

Une très jolie bête, un peu lourde et sans beaucoup d’autonomie, mais qui à vraiment tout ce que voulait …

Bien entendu tout fonctionne très bien sous Windows Vista ( WebCam, tuner TV TNT , boutons multimédia …), mais je tenais à le passer sous Ubuntu…

Kubuntu Festy :

Juin 2007 : premier essai. Pas terrible ; à peu près rien de reconnu. Vidéo en 680×400. Galère en installant les pilotes graphiques ATI propriétaires…

Kubuntu Gusty :

Octobre 2007 : Nettement mieux. Les pilotes graphiques ATI propriétaires fonctionnent après installation depuis le panneau de configuration Système .

Ne reconnait toujours pas la WebCam, ni le tuner TV.

  • Pour la Webcam, cette page de doc ubuntu a apporté la solution : http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/syntek
  • Pour le tuner TV, rien n’a marché. J’ai vaguement réussi à avoir quelques chaines analogiques avec xawtv, mais sans son … après avoir installé une version
  • experimentale de v4l-dvb et en déclarant cette carte comme une Avermedia M115 ( voir http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=397164) . Mais le pilote mt352 suposé gérer la TNT n’a jamais voulu se charger…

Un an de bons et loyaux services quand même !

Kubuntu Hardy :

je suis passé en Novembre 2008 sous Hardy. La migration depuis Gusty ne s’étant pas très bien passée (problème avec un paquet java-sun-docs qui a bloqué la mise à jour), j’ai décidé de réinstaller Hardy sur la partition / en ne re-formatant pas la partition /home ! Quelle surprise de voir que tout a été reconnu et installé, sauf le son et le tuner TV . J’ai retrouvé au premier boot mon home, mes préférences … que du bonheur.

      • La carte graphique ATI radeon a été reconnue et le pilote fglx installé directement
      • La webcam Syntek est reconnue de suite, et fonctionne avec camorama, quoiqu’il faille appliquer un filtre pour avoir un rendu moins « bleuâtre ».

Le son :

Grosse galère pour le son ; j’ai tout essayé , rien, nada, silence complet… jusqu’à ce que je tape dans une console :

sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart

Pour une raison que j’ignore encore , les réglages de la carte son restent à zéro au boot . Cette incantation magique a tout débloqué ; donc après avoir réglé les volumes sonores comme je voulais, je les ai sauvés par :

sudo alsactl store

ce qui a créé un fichier /var/lib/alsa/asound.state que je me suis empressé de sauvegarder.

Pour retrouver le son à chaque boot j’ai ajouté à /etc/rc.local

/sbin/alsactl restore

J’ai bien essayé la méthode officielle d’ajouter dans /etc/rcS.d un lien S50alsa-utils vers /etc/init.d/alsa-utils mais ca n’a pas fonctionné ; donc je garde ma petite ligne dans rc.local

Avec les drivers alsa 1.0.16, le son est bien plus puissant que sous Gutsy, ou c’était vraiment faiblard ; par contre rien ne sort quand je branche un casque sur la sortie hautparleurs ! et curieusement kMix ne me propose pas de curseur avec une icône haut parleur comme avec Gutsy … bizarre , bizarre…

Le wifi :

La carte wifi a été reconnue et j’ai pu me connecter via knetworkmanager à mon routeur Wifi Freebox avec une clé WEP sans souci. Bizarrement, la connexion a mon autre routeur Netgear ( à l’autre bout de l’appartement et relié à la FreeBox par CPL ) a échoué … comme avec mon eeePC. Ce routeur est en « mode ouvert », mais a un filtre sur les quatre adresses Mac des PC de la famille … Bien entendu, pas de problème avec Vista ! grrrrrrrrrrrrr…

Je m’en suis sorti en installant le paquet linux-backports-modules-generic qui a une nouvelle version du driver iwl3945 pour la carte Wifi RealTeck… ca marche.

Le tuner TV :

Alors la, pas cool . Il s’agit un Avermedia M10D qui n’est pas reconnu par la pile V4L :

J’ai bien essayé d’installer la derniere version de video 4 linux et de la compiler … Ca marche, ca s’installe, ca a le support d’une quinzaine de cartes AverMedia, mais aucune n’a fonctionné … et la grosse surprise avec la WebCam qui ne fonctionne plus . dmesg est plein de messages d’erreur comme quoi skt1111 disagreed about version of … Mon kernel 2.4.26-21 étant pollué par les pilotes expérimentaux de v4l, j’ai du rebooter en 2.4.26-16 (merci ubuntu de m’avoir installé deux kernels), retirer tous les paquets du 2.4.26-21 puis les réinstaller pour retrouver le fonctionnement initial .

De toute façon le logiciel tvTime refuse de partir en prétextant une sombre histoire de drivers ATI nous reconnu et que je devrais me tourner vers gatos …

Et xawtv est vraiment hideux !

Donc standby pour l’instant ; j’ai blacklisté les modules saa7134 et saa7134_alsa pour ne pas gérer ce tuner …

je me suis donc tourné vers les effets de bureau… pas mal. Les articles de la doc ubuntu sur compiz-fusion m’ont bien aidé ; y compris la solution au problème d’affichage des applications Java !

    Plus de son, plus de WebCam après mise à jour du noyau en 2.6.24-23-generic

    Il m’a fallu installer les drivers linux-ubuntu-modules-generic avec adept … (les modules stk1xx n’étaient plus présents ) ?
